About Dr. Rima |
Dr. Rima Kittley is a board-certified family practice physician. She is comfortable working with people of all ages.
Family practice is a medical specialty that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and the family. The scope of family practice encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system, and every disease entity. Dr. Rima is trained to diagnose and treat a wide variety of illnesses and conditions.
The family physician is a specialist trained in caring for the whole person. Probably the hardest job a physician has is to diagnose the problem when that patient doesn't know what the problem is. And if an individual feels healthy, the physician's job is to help him or her stay that way. If a patient has a number of acute and chronic medical problems, then the physician's job is take care of and help with the treatment, including using consultations with other health professionals and referrals as appropriate. If Dr. Rima doesn't know the answer to a problem, she will work hard to find someone who does. With Dr. Rima, the patient is a partner in his or her health care.
One of her favorite jobs is taking care of 'the mamas and the babies'. She has delivered more than 450 babies in her career. Sadly, due to the cost of malpractice insurance, she no longer delivers babies as of September, 2004. With four children and two step-children of her own, Dr. Rima can communicate well with children and adolescents. She wants children to enjoy coming to the doctor, even if it sometimes that means a shot is in order. A proud moment is when one catches her skirt and says, "I want to be a doctor like you when I grow up."
Older patients appreciate Dr. Rima's warmth and caring personality as well as her extensive background. She treats them like she would her own grandmother or grandfather. If hospitalization is required, Dr. Rima may follow you at either Memorial Health System of East Texas or Woodland Heights Hospital in Lufkin.
Above all, Dr. Rima believes in education. She wants the patient to learn why he or she is not feeling well and how specific medicines are going to help them feel better. Her first book, Obesity's Answer, the CELL Program, with C. Elaine Bolen, RN is now available at www.obesitysanswer.com.
